Local City Buses

Tirana has a public bus system, but for tourists, it's not the most practical option. Routes can be confusing, and the central area is walkable. Here's what you need to know:

Good for

  • Getting to Dajti Express cable car
  • Reaching outer neighborhoods
  • Very cheap (40-50 lek / ~€0.35)

Challenges

  • Routes not clearly marked
  • No English information
  • Can be crowded

Taxis in Tirana

Traditional Taxis

  • Base fare: ~300 lek (€2.50)
  • Per km: ~100 lek (€0.85)
  • Typical ride: €3-5 within center
  • Tip: Round up or add 50-100 lek
Important: Always ask for the meter or agree on price before starting. Yellow taxis are official, but always confirm the fare.

Ride-Hailing Apps

  • Bolt: Most popular, reliable
  • InDriver: Negotiate your price
  • Payment: Cash or card in app
  • Benefit: Fixed price, GPS tracked
Recommendation: Download Bolt before arriving. It's the easiest way to get around without language barriers.
